SUMMARY:Diagnosis of ADHD in Adults
DESCRIPTION:About this Event\n\n\nWhen you think of ADHD\, there is a good chance that you will associate it with being a disorder that impacts younger children. However\, we know that there is a strong genetic link and many adults are now being diagnosed with ADHD following the diagnosis of their child. In the case of David\, and like many of his clients\, his own ADHD went undetected until a combination of factors led to a diagnosis. This completely re-framed his past. David is a BACP and NCS-registered counsellor and his openness about his diagnosis has seen him contacted by many people contacting him seeking ADHD Support. In this webinar David will talk about ADHD from an adult perspective\, as well as his path to diagnosis. As we know navigating an ADHD referral or diagnosis for a child can be tricky enough\, but this seems to be even more challenging for anyone over 18. \nAbout the speaker\nDavid Levy\, Founder\, ADHD Counselling UK \n\n\nOnline information\nRegistrants will be emailed the Zoom dial in details on the morning of the webinar. \n\n\nPricing & Assisted Places\nWe charge a modest amount for our seminars in order to help us cover our costs\, yet we also want them to be affordable to as many people as possible. We have a limited number of assisted places for those suffering financial hardship. SUMMARY:(via CB Counsellor Training) Working with and supporting ADHD clients in therapy
DESCRIPTION:When he was diagnosed aged 42\, BACP-registered counsellor David Levy carried the same preconceptions and stereotypes about the condition as everyone else – isn’t ADHD a thing for hyperactive kids? Is medication going to take away the best parts of who I am? Are people just going to think I’m using it as an excuse? \nThe reality\, as he would come to learn\, was very different. \nIn the immediate aftermath of diagnosis\, David went looking for help – and instead found an alarming lack of knowledge\, some concerning cases of false advertising\, and\, as many on similar journeys have ultimately found\, a need to work it out himself. \n  \nIn the time since\, David has developed a specialist knowledge of ADHD and its causes\, its effects\, and how to put into words the innumerate un-named behaviours and thoughts which comprise ADHD. \n  \nThis broad-ranging day of training and presentation for counsellors and trainee counsellors splits ADHD in two\, with the morning session covering the technical aspects of ADHD including symptoms\, diagnosis\, medication and diagnostic pathways\, and the afternoon session focussing on the ADHD lived experience\, including common comorbidity\, the role of counselling and therapy\, and the past\, present and future challenges which come in the aftermath of diagnosis. \n  \nMorning session: \n\nWhat ADHD means (and what it really means)\nHistory and origins\nSymptoms\, causes and prevalence\nWhat ADHD is not\, and not caused by\nWhy we’re not all ‘a little bit ADHD’\nBrain activity and ADHD\nWhy ADHD is different for women and girls\nDiagnostic pathways and medication\n\n  \nAfternoon session: \n\nThe ‘real’ lived experience and symptoms\nThe signs of ADHD\nCommon comorbidity\n‘The ADHD Tax’\nADHD and impulse – crime\, addiction\, relationships and why.\nThe reality of the diagnostic pathway\, available options\, and the role of therapy\nRecent developments in ADHD treatment and science\n\n  \nThis day promises to take on an in-depth journey of how ADHD effects every aspect of living in a predominantly neurotypical world and the impact this has on your clients.

SUMMARY:(via CB Counsellor Training) Working with Neurodivergent Clients Online Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This one-day training event with Angela is the first in a series of four training days we are planning next year\, collectively called our Neurofestival. We are delighted to be able to bring you a selection of days covering different aspects of Neurodiversity to help you work with Neurodiverse clients in an affirmative and useful way.  The other training days will be added soon. \nTHIS IS A REPEAT OF THE ONE DAY TRAINING EVENT HELD IN 2022 SO PLEASE DON’T BOOK IF YOU HAVE ALREADY ATTENDED \nA training event for counsellors in which our facilitator poses the following questions – \nDo you know what being Neurodivergent (ND) means?\nDo you work or have you ever worked with autistic/ND individuals?\nDid you feel you were able to provide your client(s) with an affirmative therapeutic space to explore their ND?\nDo you find there are things that you do not understand about being ND or that you may encounter stereotypes of what being autistic or ND means to our clients?\nWhat are your thoughts on labels?\nAre we all ‘a little bit Autistic’?\nWhat are the different types of ND?\nWhat about functioning labels?\nWhere do you stand with unconscious bias and how it may (or may not) impact the therapeutic relationship? \nIt is most probable that in your client work you have or will work with ND clients. You may not know; they may not know – but what we do know is that if we don’t understand what being neurodivergent/autistic means then we are potentially harming our clients. \nKnowledge of this area of work is so important to ensure our clients have the therapeutic experience they need and should be afforded.
